Name that Yarn!

We're getting ready to release a brand new yarn and guess what? It needs a name! This yarn is going to be released exclusively through Pick Up Sticks and to make it even more interesting, Connie will also have exclusive colourways dyed by us! We will be having 12 in total so there will be a nice selection for everyone to choose from.

What's the yarn made of? It's a unique and gorgeous blending of 40% sw merino, 30% alpaca, 20% cashmere and 10% silk in a sport weight so it's going to be a lovely yarn for toques, mittens, gloves, shawlettes, scarves, socks and even baby items. Can you see the bit of sheen as well as the alpaca halo in the photo? Yum!

Name that Shawl!

And fresh off the needles is my shawl design #2. Am I happy with it? It has grown on me. I added bobbles on the last row and blocked them so they are like tassles. Why? I have no idea but it seemed like a good idea at the time...LOL I still think they look kind of fun and add another element to the design overall. Who doesn't like a bobble anyways? :)

So now that she's done, I have absolutely no clue what to name her and that's where you come in! Leave a comment on this blog post with your suggestion for her name before Valentine's Day eve i.e. midnight EST on February 13, 2011 and if I choose your suggestion, you will win one skein of a colourway of your choice from the yarn I used to knit this design up. It's a lovely one too in case you haven't used it before made of merino/cashmere and silk in a heavy lace and called Serenity Silk. Right now I have a lot of colourways to choose from! One entry per person please.

I'm also wondering if I should write this one up for everyone - what do you think? Yes or no? Leave your answer with your guess in the comments. If I choose your  shawl name, I'll be sure to give you credit for the name with the pattern!

Welcome Juliette.

Thank you everyone for entering my wheel naming contest - it was great fun watching all the names roll in and in the end, it was a difficult choice that I had to sit on for a day or two to make sure I chose the right name.  I really enjoyed reading all your thoughts behind the names you chose too - very enlightening a lot of your comments!  I had two names that were quite appealing to me and in the end, I decided on Juliette. It seems little sister-ish to Julia and also has a bit of a fun, fresh feel to it. So I Googled the name and it is of French origin and means youthful on one site, entertaining lass on another and apparently was the 14th most popular name in Quebec in 2006. Overall, I like the feel of it and I think it suits the wheel's nature very well.

So who's our winner?! Natalie! She was our 19th commenter on the contest post, is from Scotland and as she said, the name does have to have a French accent to it when spoken so I totally agree with that and will do my best to give it that accent when I call her by her name! 

As a funny aside story, I asked Mr. Zen for a name and he said "Punky" which made me laugh...and why I asked him? Because the wheel is small and has personality. I did giggle at this name too and when she's misbehaving I just might call her that! LOL

Natalie wins a 4 oz. bump of my new Serenity Roving (as pictured) which I'll be dyeing up today for the store. It's a gorgeous fibre that contains cashmere.

Name that wheel.

Please help me decide on a name for my new wheel! The winner gets a 4 oz. bump of my new Serenity Roving in a surprise colourway. This fibre is made up of 80% superwash merino, 10% cashmere and 10% nylon.  It's technically a sliver prep which is just a slightly thinner version of roving. It's what you see on my wheel currently and I am really enjoying it. Nothing like starting out on a new wheel with a luxury fibre! Yum. 

The time change has meant spinning at midnight. I'm so not a morning person so with springing forward, gosh, I have more energy in the evenings so I've been spinning. Not a bad trade-off for having a heckuva time getting motivated in the mornings. Do you spin in the evenings too?

As for her name, I don't know what to call her. I decided she's a "she" because the wheel is so darn cute. To help with naming her, her big sister is Julia and she's definitely Julia's little sister so what do you think? Leave your suggestion in the comments and I'll decide on Monday.
