And by "D" I mean Detroit, Michigan. Just this past weekend a group of us from my local SnB gathered ourselves up into two cars and made the journey to see the Yarn Harlot speak and we had such a nice time. Stephanie is engaging, witty and funny all rolled into one. She mentioned something about being nervous when she first came out but honestly, I was none the wiser...she is a fantastic speaker and so easy to relate to. A friend of mine called her genuine and I think that sums up her talks very well.
There were a couple of moments of eyes filling with tears when she spoke about self-esteem and how she has finally realized that she is truly a writer and an author despite all the comments to the contrary. Who makes these comments? Non-knitters of course because if you're a knitter, you'd never even consider Stephanie not to be an author...I mean, come on, how many books has she published now? LOL!
The Detroit Public Library was gorgeous and the drive over was fairly quick as well. Here's a few shots I managed during the day:
And remember the sweater Stephanie knit in what was it? 17 days or so during the Ravelympics? Here it is and in person, stunning!
I think this is my favourite as I felt like a total fan girl and was tickled by the Yarn Harlot looking at the Zen Yarn Garden yarn I gave her. She said something really funny to me too but do you think I remember? No! I was way too nervous...LOL
If you'd like to watch a couple of little videos from her talk, here they are...the titles are self-explanatory once you listen...now I wish I had caught a couple more!
If you ever have the chance to go see the Yarn Harlot speak and haven't yet, do drop everything and go see her - it's so totally worth it! And if Stephanie is our ambassador for promoting knitting in all its glory, I don't think the knitting community could have a better spokesperson!
